Rural India With Global Taste

The much awaited Winter Carnival “SHARAD UTSAV” hosted by Delhi Public School, Junior Wing, Aligarh finally unfolded on the 18th of December,2015. The theme for the day was “Rural India With Global Taste.”

Held with great enthusiasm, fun and frolic, it was eagerly looked forward to. The day was indeed a fun filled one with mouthful of eats, games, cultural presentations and above all a gala time with friends and dear ones. Students and teachers from the Senior Wing also visited the fete.

The carnival was inaugurated by the Chief Guest for the day Mr. Ajay Tomar, Senior Unit Manager, Dainik Jagran. He was all praise for the marvellous efforts put in by the staff and students of DPS Jr. Wing Aligarh to save the culture and traditions of India in the midst of the growing western influence.

All eyes were glued to the dazzling, colourful dances – Kalbeliya, Bhangra and Lavni which depicted the flavour of distinctive culture and traditions found in different regions of India. With a novel idea using old canisters, buckets, steel containers,the orchestra team gave a scintillating presentation.

Everyone from parents to teachers and students dressed in traditional Indian costumes gave the look of a mini India.

The camel rides, Giant wheel and Merry-go-Round, Mickey Mouse, tattoo painting enthralled the children. A display of traditional craft items added variety to the show. From the desi chaats and street food to bakery items and snacks added variety in the food stalls. A desi tea stall was the highlight of the day. Interesting games like Hoopla, Give me laddoo, breaking the pyramid and even video games kept children glued to the stalls.

From the glint in the eyes of the many students dressed in colourful outfits, dancing and enjoying non-stop, one could tell that it was an occasion which would stay in their minds for a long time to come.
